From April 8 to 12, a group of 26 international buyers took part in business meetings geared toward the home fabrics market at Market Week Brazil. The group was at the event at the invitation of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – held through a partnership between Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) – and SINTEX (Trade Association of the Spinning, Weaving and Apparel Industries of Blumenau). The Program companies included in the visits were BuddemeyerFibrasca, Karsten, Bouton, Lepper, Teka and Atlântica, which had USD 870,000 in sales during Market Week. According to the companies, additional sales of USD 7.6 million are expected over the next 12 months.

The group visited the cities of Blumenau, Brusque, Joinville and São Bento, all located in Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil, attending more than 90 scheduled meetings. During visits, guests from countries such as South Africa, Argentina and Colombia had the chance to take a close look at not just collections from potential clients, but also their factories.

“This is one of the big differences of Market Week. Bringing buyers to meetings at company headquarters, giving representatives from international boutiques a firsthand look at the real potential of Brazil’s industry,” says Lilian Kaddissi, Executive Manager at Texbrasil.

According to Lucia de Morales, from the Homemart company of Guatemala, the one-on-one visits added greatly to the experience. “Seeing the Brazilian companies up close was a very rich opportunity. I was also impressed by the logistics of the event, which was very well organized,” she adds.
