From April 24 to 28, a group of eight international buyers participated in a business agenda in the city of Rio de Janeiro at the invitation of Texbrasil – Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, held through a partnership between Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association). The five-day immersion introduced the buyers to a selection of brands from the city, including during their visit to Veste Rio, as well as at external visits. The buyers said that they had done USD 225,000 in business during the trip. Additional business of USD 370,000 is expected over the next 12 months.

The international group includes Marcia Henrique, of the Espace Canelle store of Portugal; Pooneh Mohazzabi, of Jogo Living in the USA; Pamela Fernandez, of Paraguay Bikinis; Dina Ghorayeb with the Fashion Jardin showroom of Lebanon; Gian Marco Guatteri and Suelen Guatteri, with France’s Brazilian Bikini Shop; and Guido Melo and Amy Melo, with Melko of Australia.

The agenda organized by the Texbrasil commercial promotion team included external meetings with the Farm, A. Niemeyer and Adriana Degreas stores and daily visits to stands set up by Brazilian labels taking part in Veste Rio.

The event was promoted by Revista Ela, a magazine published by O Globo newspaper, in partnership with Vogue Brazil. It brought together Program companies including Bikiny Society, Blue Man, Rio de Sol, Haight, Haes, Praya, De Chelles, Despi, Blue Man, Haes, Karla Vivian, Lucidez, Maria Pavan, T. Arrigoni, U.V Line, Victor Dzenk and Emi Beachwear. Together, the brands said they did USD 2.8 million in business during the event and expect to bring in USD 4.4 million over the coming months.

According to Marcia Azzi, with the Lucidez company, receiving the international group was very important to the brand’s internationalization strategy. “These contacts we make with international buyers are valuable. That is why we want to thank everyone with the Program team for bringing in such a diverse group from excellent target markets,” she says.
