Sol Sports helps transform leftover fabric into carnival costumes
Sol Sports is contributing to the circularity of materials with the donation of textile leftovers for the creation of carnival costumes and figurines. The company which takes part in Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Association of the Textile and Apparel Industry) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – operates in the sportswear and paraglider market, and has given up more than 200 kilos for the initiatives.
The process was carried out in partnership with costume designer and visual artist Marcio Paloschi, who used the fabrics to produce costumes for the Grande Rio samba school, and also in the design of the scenery and costumes for the Opera “The Marriage of Fígaro”, shown in January in Santa Catarina.
“Marcio presented us with the idea, which we quickly understood to be aligned with our principles and actions involving sustainability and focus on the green economy,” comments the person responsible for the area of international relations at Sol, Patricia de Oliveira Souza.
For Grande Rio, Marcio created costumes for the wings and floats. In the opera, on the other hand, the entire scenery, as well as the soprano’s costumes. According to Patrícia, Paloschi is the ideal partner for Sol: “he does a lot of research and is inserted in the world of art and fashion, which enables the creative use of materials that would otherwise be discarded,” she comments.
Patrícia also says that Sol is planning several other initiatives involving the reuse of materials. The brand should soon develop partnerships in other areas of the creative economy, including handicrafts, home decoration, and clothing accessories.
