Mauricio Borges, of Apex-Brasil, receives Abit Medal of Merit
On December 4, Apex-Brasil received the “Abit Medal of Merit,” given to the Agency’s President, Mauricio Borges, in a ceremony held at the Association’s headquarters. The honor was given due to the Agency’s contributions to the industry’s internationalization, especially through the creation of Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) in 2000.
The project supported 1,200 companies in the industry, bringing 2,100 international buyers and journalists to the country to attend regional fashion weeks and taking Brazilian labels to over 240 trade shows around the world.Altogether, the industry exported USD 3.3 billion during this time.
“It is extremely important that Apex-Brasil receives this honor, since it was a watershed in exports for the industry’s manufacturers. Thanks to the Agency, companies that never dreamed of taking part in international trade shows went to Europe, the USA, Colombia, Central America and Asia.Today, we take part in around 20 trade shows annually,” said Aguinaldo Diniz Filho, Abit’s President.
For Mauricio Borges, receiving the Medal of Merit is a milestone in a partnership that has generated lasting results for the industry.”I learned a lot by participating in meetings at this organization. It is part of professional and personal growth.I saw a strong industry and that makes a difference abroad. It shows how Brazil is strong, innovative and creative,” he said.
On May 1, 2013, Apex-Brasil and Abit signed their eighth agreement to maintain Texbrasil, in which 211 companies are members.
