10/21/2013

Simona Martinez, editor of Harper’s Bazaar Argentina, and Lee Carter, founder and editor of America’s HintMag magazine, were recently in Brazil at the invitation of Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, maintained by Abit and Apex-Brasil), to take a close look at the fashion shows for the 34th Casa de Criadores (House of Creators) – F/W 2014, which ended on October 16 at Memorial da America Latina, in Sao Paulo.

In addition to the event coverage, the journalists also served as panel members for the finals of the first ever BtoBe (Brazilians to Be) contest, whose winners were announced on the last night: Heloisa Strobel with her Reptilia label won the Entrepreneur category, while Nathan de Souza and his Nosotros project beat out five other contenders to win the Student category. The contest, which is held by Texbrasil and Casa de Criadores, serves as an incubator for new talent, with the winners being able to take part in international trade shows and events; in addition, the brands will go through commercial promotion and training activities.

“I really know Brazilian fashion, because I have watched events like Sao Paulo Fashion Week and Fashion Rio throughout the years and after seeing Casa de Criadores, I am amazed with the number of new designers that Brazil has,” says Simona Martinez, who is taking part in the event for the first time.

The judging panel was also comprised of another 15 panel members: Joao Pimenta, Weider Silveiro and Rober Dognani; entrepreneur Cris Resende (Cartel 011); and journalists Sergio Amaral (L’Officiel Brasil), Eduardo Viveiros (Chic), Jorge Wakabara (Lilian Pacce), Vivi Haydu (Revista Têxtil), Fernanda Schimidt (Uol) and Katiane Romero (Manequim). Also taking part were Udison Cunha, representing the Choix boutique; journalists Pedro Diniz and Rosangela Espinossi, who respectively write for Folha de S. Paulo and Portal Terra; the branding manager for Ellus, Eduardo Dugois; and Professor Joao Amato, of Fundação Vanzolini.
