3rd edition of the Sustainability League comes to an end with positive changes for participating companies

03/26/2024

After seven months, another edition of the Sustainability League, also known as the Brazilian Sustainable Fashion League (BSFL), created in 2020 by Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program), comes to an end, this is the result of a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and Abit (The Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association), aiming to help participating companies revisit their production and management practices in order to reduce their negative impacts. “The goal is to transform the Brazilian fashion industry into a globally recognized model of sustainability”, says Lilian Kaddissi, executive superintendent of strategic projects at Abit.

“The participation helped us to identify areas for improvement both socially and environmentally,” says Ivan Roumeliotis, industrial manager at Werner. Companies such as Werner, which went through the formation of BSFL, end up promoting changes in the company’s structure, such as Capricórnio Têxtil, which created a sustainability area, according to Gabryella Mendonça, sustainability supervisor.

For Lila Guimarães it was also like that. “Being part of the League has allowed us to broaden our perspective and find opportunities,” says T. Christina’s communications director.

In addition to the agenda of group meetings, the training promoted personalized individual services, conducted by the consultancy Moda Verde and by renowned professionals, Lilly Clark and Yamê Reis, who, based on a diagnosis grounded on ESG indicators, presented strengths and improvements in the companies’ processes, as well as helped them in planning for the implementation of more sustainable practices.

The League offered several benefits, such as mentoring, immersion, image promotion and impact actions that can be put into practice quickly by participants. The guidelines addressed in the project are based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and bring issues such as the protection of the environment and the reduction of use of natural resources.

This was the last edition of the Sustainability League, an important milestone in the Brazilian fashion industry, promoting sustainability and encouraging companies to adopt more responsible practices.
