44th Casa de Criadores introduces up-and-coming talent to São Paulo
The city of São Paulo hosted the 44th edition of Casa de Criadores (House of Creators) from November 26 to 30. Twice a year the event introduces major up-and-coming talent to the Brazilian fashion market, and this edition hosted 26 fashion shows over five days. Member brands of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – held through a partnership between Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) – took part in the event, whether by showing collections, like Ocksa and Rhodia, or by supporting the event, like Vicunha.
Ocksa brought the brand’s classical genderless shapes to the runway: always oversized and full of layers. Tying was a highlight at this edition. The brand’s palette, which is usually more somber, with lots of black and grey, was given a pop of yellow in many of the looks.
Rhodia, in partnership with Alto Giro, which was making its debut, developed a capsule collection geared towards technological streetwear. The collab showed the audience 20 sportswear items developed using the Amni Soul Eco polyamide, which has biodegradable properties, and the Emana polyamide, which uses long infrared ray technology to convert body heat and provide benefits in terms of skincare and sports performance. Among the highlights are trousers with a technology that allows for wireless induction charging for smartphones, developed by Alexandra Farah, a journalist and the founder of the WeAr Brasil startup. Products are expected to reach stores in the first half of 2019.
Vicunha was at 22 fashion shows. Among highlights for the season are different ways of using the company’s twill, which ranged from Saint Studio’s architectural and minimalist items to the satiny volume of debut brand NotEqual, at this edition from Casa de Criadores from the runways of Minas Trend.
During the show from the Sou de Algodao movement – with designs by various creators, aimed at increasing demand for cotton by raising consumer awareness – singer Gaby Amarantos wore a total Metallic Denim look and two unusual creations from the KEN-GA brand, which upcycled trousers and shirts made of jeans to show voluminous and flowing 100% denim frocks on the runway. The brand also used Absolut Eco, Vicunha’s biggest new product. It is notable for reducing water consumption by 95% and lowering chemicals used in its production by up to 90%, in addition to using recycled raw material and no dyes.
The next edition of the event is set for take place at the end of the first half of 2019.
