Blumenau and Belo Horizonte host workshop on sustainability in the fashion business
On May 17 and June 8, the cities of Blumenau (SC) and Belo Horizonte (MG) respectively hosted workshops on how sustainability can be part of the fashion business. The events are a result of a partnership between Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), and Uniethos, a consulting firm specializing in sustainability strategies.
The chats will be led by Regi Magalhaes, the director of Uniethos who holds a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Sao Paulo and has international executive education in sustainability, supply chain and shared value. The speaker provides consulting and research to national and international companies and organizations and teaches Sustainable Finance at Fundacao Getulio Vargas. The workshops will cover issues such as: which social and environmental aspects impact the fashion chain, what is the sustainability panorama at Brazilian companies, and how can this contribute to competitiveness in domestic production.
“In partnership with Uniethos, we did a study aimed at identifying the standards of sustainability required by the textile and apparel industry in markets in the U.S.A., Europe and Japan, and the extent to which Brazilian companies are compliant with these standards. This study resulted in a report with the most important required and voluntary international standards in these markets in terms of sustainability,” says Karine Liotino, innovation and sustainability manager at Texbrasil. The knowledge generated by this study will also be debated at the events, which are aimed at training participating companies on increasing their degree of compliance and alignment with international sustainability requirements.
“For the next agreement to be executed by Abit and Apex-Brasil, to execute the Texbrasil Program, there will be projects and initiatives that orient and assist companies on adapting to international sustainability standards, such as norms, regulations and certifications, so that they are suited to meeting the requirements established for doing business with the Program’s target markets,” adds Karine.
