Brazilian delegation arrives in Medellín for Colombiatex 2022

01/24/2022

After two digital editions, Colombiatex returns to the in-person version with the participation of a Brazilian delegation with 22 companies supported by Texbrasil (Internationalization Program for the Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry) — the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

Those visiting the Plaza Mayor in Medellín, Colombia, starting next Tuesday (25th) will see the latest products from Berlan, Brand Textil, Canatiba, Cataguases, Cedro Textil, Coltex, Covolan, Dalila Textil, Diklatex, Kalimo, Linhas Trichê, Paranatex, Salotex, Sancris, Santaconstancia, Santana Textiles, Santanense, Santista Textil, SMS Metais, SPA Textil, Textil J. Serrano and Vicunha Textil.

“Expectations for Colombiatex’s return are the best. The country is very significant for the Brazilian textile market and we are happy to be able to resume face-to-face contact with potential customers, in addition to presenting the news of the Brazilian sector”, comments Lilian Kaddissi, executive manager of Texbrasil.

In addition to the brands’ stands in the respective sectors of Colombiatex, Texbrasil will have its own space at the event. Upon arrival at the trade show, visitors will get to know the Texbrasil area, which will feature information about the project and the companies, as well as a forum with product samples from each of the Brazilian brands.

Many colors

The Brazilian delegation arrives with a varied composition within the textile segment. Berlan, for example, develops knitted fabrics for the fashion, sports and beachwear segments. The brand will present a line made with an innovative sublimation technique that allows customized prints. For the denim segment, Canatiba has a sustainable proposal, especially with the “Eko” line, which uses discarded cotton in its manufacture.

The highlight, however, is for the colors. Following the global trends, the brands present colorful palettes, including in jeanswear, leaving the traditional blue. Cataguases, for example, invited 12 designers to develop new colors, which were then applied to concept pieces.

Another trend that brands will take is natural and sustainable dyeing. Dalila Textil bets on elements of nature, such as Turmeric and Urucum to color the fabrics. Santana, on the other hand, bets on sustainable dyeing that, in addition to having a low concentration of indigo dye, uses fewer chemicals.

Cedro follows the same line with the “aniline-free” dye. With negligible and undetectable levels of dye, the dye is harmless and safe for the environment, as the water used for washing does not go through the salinization process present in other products.

Free trade

Brazil and Colombia have, since 2017, a free trade agreement. Among the main products exported by Brazil to Colombia in 2021 are textile articles such as cotton fabrics (USD 39.8 million); wadding, felts, nonwovens (USD 7.4 million); impregnated fabrics for technical use (USD 3.0 million), and cotton yarns (USD 2.5 million).

“We have been participating in Colombiatex for 20 years and we noticed how the event helped to strengthen relations between the two countries. Colombia is an important commercial partner of Brazil, and we were happy to resume this direct contact during the tradeshow”, concludes Lilian.
