Brazilian fashion charms journalists and buyers at Fashion Rio
Last Friday (4/19) closed the S/S 2014 collection of Fashion Rio, held at the Gloria Marine. The fashion week featured Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Export Program), developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency). The Program took to the event a group of eight buyers and thirteen journalists from countries like Italy, France, England, Australia, Argentina, Uruguay, Finland, Turkey and Lebanon.
The fashion seen here surprised the trendsetters. Among them is Joao Paulo Nunes, of The Huffington Post: “Brazilian fashion has a continuous dialogue between creativity and large-scale production. There are very talented designers in Brazil who deserve to be appreciated in the country and abroad. It may take a few years, but this recognition will happen”, he believes. According to the journalist, the designers and brands that exhibited their collections at Fashion Rio proved to be able to engage in a global discourse on fashion using their sophisticated vocabulary.
For the buyers Rita Okais and Marie Therese, of the Lebanese store Symbiose, the event enabled a closer relationship with national companies. “We had the chance to meet many interesting brands”, they say. The opportunity to make new contacts was also highlighted by Terecina Leite, of the Uruguayan Te-modas: “I am delighted with all the support I received from Abit and Texbrasil. I was very happy with the result”.
The group of buyers of this edition also included representatives of one of the most important department stores in the world, Browns (England). Laura Larbalestier and Rebecca Osei-Baidoo were delighted not only with the Brazilian fashion, but also with the beauty of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The agenda of the buyers includes, beyond fashion shows, visits to brands, showrooms and meetings with Brazilian businessmen.
International guests also attended the meet&greet organized by Texbrasil at the Santa Teresa Hotel, where they had contact with entrepreneurs, organizers and supporters of the event. The fashion and design core manager of Texbrasil, Evilasio Miranda, and the superintendent of Abit, Fernando Pimentel, were at the meeting to talk with international guests and answer their doubts about the Brazilian industry.
