The second 2018 edition of Inspiramais, the materials design and innovation show, was held July 17 and 18, in Sao Paulo. One of the highlights of the event was the + Estampa project, which showed creations from eight studios from across Brazil. The project is carried out by Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – along with Assintecal (Brazilian Association of Leather Components, Footwear and Artifact Companies), with the goal of fostering the creativity of Brazilian printmakers, showing applications and techniques to designers and encouraging originality.

Among the studios at this edition of + Estampa, seven are Texbrasil members: Oficina LamparinaStudio AurumEstudio IcertainEstudio CapimNomadDash Studio and  Kati Flores. The recently created Kati Flores launched its first collection at Inspiramais.

“It was an amazing experience. In addition to showing our work to the public for the first time and networking with buyers and companies, we had a very valuable exchange with the most experienced studios, who were also taking part in the project,” explains Katiuscia Flores, the owner of Kati Flores, in Nova Hamburgo (SC).

She says that the studio did extensive research to launch this first collection: “we really studied consumer behavior, as well as trends and applications. The result is timeless prints inspired by local culture,” she says.

Before exhibiting at the show, all of the studies underwent training given by consultant Lucius Vilar and promoted by Texbrasil and Assintecal (Brazilian Association of Leather, Footwear and Artifact Component Companies). During training, Lucius valued Brazilian innovation, guaranteeing that the event’s audience had access to exclusive and original prints. Artists Van Gogh and Jean-Michel Basquiat were major inspirations for this edition.

“We work with a very small palette of colors, offering a fresh and new look. We are also big fans of handcrafting, which recalls expressionism and street art,” says the consultant, who used a methodology called 10% pyramid.

Press and buyers

In addition to those attending the show, international journalists and guests visiting the event at the invitation of Texbrasil were at the + Estampa stands. During this meeting, interviews were held with Moda y Estilo TV (Argentina) and El Nuevo Siglo Bogota (Colombia) media, in addition to negotiations with buyers Antonio Vital (Portugal), Manuela Terzagui (Argentina) and Mora Becerra (Argentina), respectively representing retailers Vital & Relvas, OSX and Jazmin Chebar.
