Canatiba invites designers to show potential of denim
What is the limit of denim? What can be created with this centuries-old material? How can the advancement of industry be aligned with the creativity of fashion designers and graphic designers? What can be done to stimulate the most competitive segment in the textile chain? In search of a solution for these challenges, Canatiba presents “Canatiba Lab,” a platform for developing design projects in permanent dialog with the cutting edge of this segment.
The weaving company, which is a member brand of Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), used this project to select vanguard products for big names in Brazilian fashion to develop an exclusive clothing line, exploring the frontiers and possibilities of each fabric. For the first phase of the project, three partners were invited from different areas, each with notable characteristics in how they do fashion.
Fabiana Milazzo, a designer who is an icon of sophistication and elegance, used unusual constructions that flirted with haute couture, showing jeans that went far beyond the “old, worn-out pair.” Almerinda Maria used indigo fibers to build her creations, which drew from the lace making tradition with a contemporary touch. Finally, Silvia Ulson went with relations between denim and the world of arts, paints, prints and surprising colors. The Canatiba Lab is coordinated by Vanessa Covolan and curated by the Duo Press team. Although this is the project’s first phase, new partnerships to work at the cutting edge of denim have already been confirmed.
