Cannes features Brazilian fashion at Momento Brasil event
The Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from May 15 to 26, will feature Brazilian culture, film and swimwear at “Momento Brasil,” a parallel event being held by Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and the SIAESP (Audiovisual Industry Guild of the State of São Paulo).
As a highlight of the initiative, Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Export Program – developed by Abit in partnership with the Agency) and ABEST (Brazilian Association of Fashion Designers) will represent Brazilian design using select labels. These organizations are part of a group of institutions comprising the Brasil Fashion System, a brand to internationalize Brazilian fashion; they will organize a runway show to promote the work of 15 designers that will show the colors, textures and shapes that make Brazilian bikinis and swimsuits the most coveted in the world.
“It will be a strategic moment for strengthening relations between Brazilian creators and the international market. May is a month when the world turns its attention to France. That is because in addition to the Cannes Film Festival, the top tennis tournament, the Roland Garros, is also taking place in the country, and the Grand Prix is happening in Monaco,” says Valdemar Iodice, the President of ABEST.
The labels participating are: Texbrasil members Alessa, Limonada, Blue Man, Lybethras and Victor Dzenk; and ABEST members Água de Coco, Alór, Brigitte, Cecilia Prado Mare, Ellis beachwear, Iodice, Jo de Mer, Lenny, Loér, Melt Swim, Remalola, Sinesia Karol and Triya. Each label will showcase two looks from their Summer 2013/2014 collections, with footwear by Amazonas Sandals – the first Brazilian manufacturer of biodegradable flip flops. These brands are part of a select group of export labels at the organizations: the Texbrasil brands are part of Texbrasil Design, a group working on behalf of internationalization of Brazilian design, promoting premium Program labels; while the ABEST brands are part of +Beach Brasil, a project driving Brazilian swimwear with various initiatives in the United States, Europe and Asia.
“Fashion and film represent the style of a country with the same sense of propriety. That is why it makes sense to promote these two worlds together, with one leveraging the other,” says Evilásio Miranda, Manager of the Fashion and Design Center at Texbrasil.
The show is scheduled for May 17, at 6pm. It will take place in the Plage Le Goeland, a private beach with the climate of a European summer, located at Boulevard de la Croisette. The space includes a tent and restaurant and will be adapted to house all of the Momento Brasil activities, presentations and meetings. Access to the runway show is only allowed with an official event invite.
