Val Valadares

Val Valadares is a brand founded by Osvaldina Batista Valadares, widely known as Val Valadares, a fashion designer born in the Jacundaí quilombola community in Pará, Brazil. From an early age, Val learned to sew with her grandmother, creating clothes for dolls — an experience that sparked her passion for fashion. At the age of 15, she moved to Belém, where she became literate and developed her skills in sewing and fashion drawing. At 25, she founded her own atelier in Porto Trombetas, specializing in haute couture.

During the 2020 pandemic, Val was discovered by SEBRAE Pará and challenged to reinterpret the marajoara shirt for COP 30, as part of the Cápsula Marajoara project. Her work reflects her commitment to honoring Marajoara culture, using artisanal techniques and premium materials such as marquetry buttons made from reforested wood. In addition, her atelier adopts sustainable practices, promoting the circular economy through the donation and reuse of fabric scraps.

With the goal of transforming Marajoara graphics into sophisticated pieces, Val also aims to inspire emerging designers and empower seamstresses, providing financial independence for women. Her Uirapuru collection pays homage to Marajoara culture with elegant garments that express tradition and sophistication while promoting sustainability.
