Designer Desiree Nercessian, a legitimate Rio de Janeiro native, has always enjoyed the landscapes the city has to offer.Desiree frequently visits the shoreline and created her own items for walks along Pepino beach and the beaches in the Sao Conrado, Ipanema and Pepe districts. After a while, people began to ask where she bought her apparel and the designer saw a chance to create a project that involved her passion for the beach and for creating.”Shortly thereafter, the name Desiree became a reference when it comes to beachwear. Our items began to be worn by most of Rio de Janeiro’s sun worshippers. The material of a wrap was used to make the Bali bikini and the comfortable embroidered cotton and beach cover-ups kicked off the professionalization and success of the brand,” recalls the designer.

With an identity that is 100% Rio de Janeiro, the Desiree Nercessian brand has also managed to win over foreigners.”The reason we are so popular and our main edge is the quasi-artisanal characteristics in each piece. Although there isn’t much variation possible from the basic bikini or swimsuit, our product always has a unique signature that catches people’s attention and allows the person using it to feel that they are wearing something original. The quality of the material and the concern with finishing also count for a lot,” she explains.

The idea now is to continue to explore the international markets the brand has already won over and consolidate its presence in Brazil.”Trade shows have proven to be an excellent showcase for our work, allowing us to close deals. Old customers come back and make new orders throughout the year. For years we have been at the main international events in Miami, Las Vegas and Paris. We have managed to become a notable presence,” she says. The latest show the brand took part in was Miami Swim Show & Lingerie Show, which ended last month. There, the label was able to show its work to hundreds of buyers and the international press.

To be on so many international platforms, the label relies on support from Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil).”I was able to sense a big leap forward in commercial visibility after I entered this partnership,” she says in closing.
