DFB Festival celebrates Brazilian fashion in digital edition
The Brazilian event DFB Festival, known as Dragão Fashion, held its first digital edition. Scheduled to take place in the first semester, the event was canceled because of the pandemic. With this, a digital version was idealized by the creator Cláudio Silveira and lasted two months.
With a focus on fashion, arts, and innovation, DFB Festival promoted online parades, film shows, and competitions to launch new talents. “We had high expectations for this new format,” says Claudio.
The creator explains that the physical version was practically ready when it was necessary to reinvent itself and bet on something new. “The public welcomed our idea. We have learned a lot from all this challenge and we will take many teachings to the next editions,” he celebrated.
The result was positive: on Youtube, the videos totaled almost 30,000 views. The line-up of the digital version was a meeting with the traditional selection of the event, which always gives prominence to the author and northeastern designers — the event takes place in the city of Fortaleza, in the state of Ceará.
New talents
The following names present their collections in the virtual edition: Bruno Olly; Ivanildo Nunes; Lindebergue; Collective (Bruno Queiroz + Gisela Franck + Bikiny Society); Vitor Cunha; Almerinda Maria; Rendá by Camila Arraes; Ronaldo Silvestre; Kalil Nepomuceno; Baba, Marina Bitu and Thereza Montenegro. The last two designers are Dragão Fashion debutants.
With the digital format, the event lasted two months, and also included social actions. In partnership with Enel, the DFB Festival donated 200 thousand masks of long protection to homes in areas of social vulnerability in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza. In addition, the initiative brought together eight restaurants of authorial cuisine to create dishes marketed at promotional prices.
Another highlight of the editions is the new talent competition, which promotes the work of students from fashion education institutions. Unlike previous editions, in 2020 the students did not present the collection in a parade, but in a pilot look book. The first position went to Unifor, followed by the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte — Campus Caicó — and by Senai Cetiqt, located in Rio de Janeiro.
Authorial fashion
The DFB Festival was created in 1999 to enable the dialogue between the layers that make up the fashion trade in the state of Ceará, facilitating access and visibility both for professionals and brands established in the market, as for new and promising talent. As the editions progressed, the event embraced actions of training, creative economy and innovation.
