Dragao Fashion Brasil celebrates Latin American creativity
The 17th edition of Dragao Fashion Brasil, one of the most significant events for original fashion in Brazil, came to an end last Saturday (May 7), in the city of Fortaleza, Ceara. With the theme of “Latin Blood,” the 2016 DFB highlighted a country with a consolidated textile industry that is hugely important to the international economy in this segment: Colombia. Covering the event were eight international journalists who came to Brazil at the invitation of Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).
One of the international guests was Lizzy Bowring, from the WGSN trend bureau. Bowring, who travelled from England to cover the event, liked the 32 fashion shows that made up this edition: “the passion, the energy and the spirit that inspired these designers was obvious through the vibrant prints, colors, accessories and crafts, which showed a wealth of inspiring trends.”
There were fashion shows by designers including Weider Silveiro, Kalil Nepomuceno and Lindeberg Fernandes, in addition to labels such as Bikiny Society – with its modern and urban beachwear, with hand-painted prints and hybrid cuts – and Pena Conceito – with a conceptual fashion show inspired by the colors of the beach and crafted using natural raw materials from the region. The program included a visit to Canatiba‘s travelling showroom, where the journalists were able to see the latest in denim technologies and trends. The group also visited the Social Energy Project, by the Companhia Energetica do Ceara (Coelce), an initiative that trains craftsworkers in the state’s capital and heartlands.
On May 5, Abit CEO Rafael Cervone took part in a roundtable on business and the market, focused on topics such as internationalization, sustainability and innovation. The chat was part of the programming for the 1st Latin American Seminar on Fashion, Culture and Development, held in parallel with the fashion week.
Colombia’s Monica Garzon (Publimetro Newspaper), Paola Guevara (El País Newspaper), Sergio Villamizar (Colprensa News Agency), Nicolas Bustamante (Carrusel Magazine), Beatriz Arango (Cromos Magazine) and Jaime Rosa and Cristina Hurtado (both from NTN News) were the other international journalists who participated in the event.
