Fabiana Milazzo develops sustainability project
“Lace Women” is the name of the project created and developed by Fabiana Milazzo in partnership with the Acao Moradia (Housing Action) NGO, whose goal is to improve quality of life for families in socially vulnerable situations in Grande Morumbi, one of the most impoverished neighborhoods of the city of Uberlandia. The Minas Gerais-based brand received consulting on sustainability from professionals at Fundacao Vanzolini (Vanzolini Foundation), through a partnership between the Foundation and Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).
The project aims to provide professional training for women through a course on stone embroidery, apparel customization and community entrepreneurship. During the course, mothers were able to bring their children to the NGO, so that they could be near them. The project is more than social responsibility; it fits into a larger context of female empowerment by encouraging participants to become individual micro-entrepreneurs, allowing them to gain a source of employment and income which removes them from any situations of dependence or risk.
Another result of consulting was a project with an educational and environmental aspect, geared towards reusing materials and training future professionals. It involves development of unique items from surplus quality materials, used by the brand in to develop collections. The project is done in partnership with the Fashion Design course at ESAMC – Uberlandia, under direct curation by designer Fabiana Milazzo. All proceeds from the sale of these items will go to the NGO.
“The search for sustainability goes well beyond a passing trend and proves to be indispensable for business as well as for maintaining the basic conditions essential to life remaining on the planet. So these projects contribute to the company generating sustainable value, by innovating in products that allow consumers to make new choices that are also in line with sustainability,” says Americo Guelere, of Fundacao Vanzolini.
Both projects were carried out under the auspices of the Texbrasil Innovation and Sustainability Program, which helps member companies to implement projects and actions in innovation and sustainability management, aimed at positioning them in the international market using a strategy based on differentiation.
