Fashion report published by Pinterest points to top global trends

WhatsApp Image 2018-09-18 at 15.00.56 (1)In late August, the Pinterest trends platform released a global fashion report with an interesting result that could help the export strategies of brands which are members of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency). The report indicates the items that Pinterest users searched for the most over the last year, outlining a truly global map of style and trends.

 

Today, virtual boards created by Pinterest users gather over 602 million files on fashion, which contain around 21 billion ideas for looks, accessories and trends. According to the insights in the report, the items most sought out by Brazilians were flared trousers (or bell-bottoms, as they were known in the ’70s) and corduroy, most popularly used in overalls and skirts.

 

According to Lilian Kaddissi, Executive Manager at Texbrasil, the study could be an interesting tool. “This information is particularly valuable for brands thinking about adapting their collections to foreign markets. It shows what people most want when we talk about fashion, fabrics and accessories in different markets,” she explains.

 

Below is a list of the most popular search terms on Pinterest, broken down by the Program’s target markets:

 

USA

 

Smock dress: flowing and frilly dresses, similar to the models worn by Orthodox Jewish women, have grown over 102% in the last year and are most popular in the USA.

 

Block heels: this robust heel is taking big steps ahead of other styles, like the stiletto or kitten heel (+333%).

 

France:

 

Wrap dresses: the French are enamored with these dresses, with a cut that flatters the female figure, with searches up by 262%.

 

Jumpsuits: practical, elegant and having risen by 58% in searches, jumpsuits now come in floral prints and looser cuts.

 

Japan:

 

Wide-leg trousers: in Japan, people are saying goodbye to skinny trousers and showing 60% more interest in wide-leg trousers.

 

Flat sandals: stylish and comfortable, flat sandals have grown by 645% and are a truly basic item for Japanese women.

 

Mexico:

 

Shirt dress: Searches for the shirt/dress or dress/shirt are 500% higher.

 

Women’s sneakers: they go great with jeans or dresses (+76%).

 

Argentina:

 

Leather jackets: a good time to pull this classic that never goes out of style out of the closet. Leather jackets are extremely popular right now in Argentina: up by 553%.

 

Jumpers: the short version of the jumpsuit is having a moment down south.

 

United Kingdom:
Button-down dresses: English women are influenced by royalty and their somber and elegant looks, like button-down dresses (+96%).

 

Headbands: after the return of the scrunchie, inspired by the ’80s, now it’s time for headbands to make a comeback. Searches are up by 157%.
