Fashion show of BtoBe brands at Colombiatex 2014
Two of the brands that are part of BtoBe, the talent incubator belonging to Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program – developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil), will be included in a fashion show at the Colombiatex trade show, being held from January 21 to 23. The biggest textile event in Latin America will welcome thousands of visitors from around the world, with Gabriela Sakate and Gralias bringing Brazil’s fashion identity by showing their collections.
Fifteen looks will be created using textile supplies from the Brazilian companies exhibiting at the trade show (Canatiba, Cataguases, Cedro, Covolan, Delfa, Doptex, Farbe, PH Fit, Rhodia, Rosset, Santanense, Tavex, Vicunha, Zanotti and Werner). This initiative is part of the maturing process for these up-and-coming designers, focusing on the international market.
With her talent and minimalist style, Gabriela Sakate has managed to become the darling of Sao Paulo’s fashion market and will make her debut at the next S/S edition of SPFW. In addition, the young Sakate was chosen as one of the five “hot new designers to watch” by the U.K. edition of Marie Claire magazine. Her collection for Colombiatex was inspired by elements in menswear tailoring, transposed to womenswear. Shapes were redefined to provide a slim-line shape and fabrics were given cut-outs in contrasting textures and colors. The items are sophisticated and in line with the contemporary design that is always a part of Sakate’s creations. Also rounding out this collection are some innovations in fabrics and technologies applied to product development.
The duo behind Gralias, Julia Guglielmetti and Grazi Cavalcanti, were the winners of the 2012 edition of BtoBe. These two young designers, who studied at the Santa Marcelina school, will take part in the international event for the first time with a collection inspired by the history of denim in Brazil. The Modernist works of Tarsila do Amaral, Anitta Malfatti and Lasar Segall were the starting point for prints and the uncomplicated shapes of long dresses. Focusing on denim, the looks show its history using cut-outs, fraying, topstitching and textile patterning.
In 2011, Cynthia Hayashi and Gustavo Silvestre were the designers chosen to represent Brazilian fashion in Colombia; in 2012, Karin Feller and Walerio Araujo were chosen and last year it was Teodoro & Anita and Weider Silveiro who brought a collection filled with different styles of dresses to the country.
