GIG launches Carnaval-inspired S/S collection

12/05/2013

Minas Gerais label GIG, which showed its S/S collection at Minas Trend Preview, has brought its Carnaval-inspired S/S 2014, collection to stores across the country. With creative direction by Gina Guerra, the garments convey the most classic parts of Brazil’s traditional festival. Prints are strong, with geometric patterns and graphics that cover a quite varied range of colors. Two-tone combinations are preferred, alluding to the samba school custom of picking two colors for their flags.  The preferred pairings are black and white and red and white.

Textures are also underscored through embroidery, jacquards and knits, which are characteristic of Minas Gerais fashion. Carnaval references are also found on the label’s sandals, which have pompoms that reference the costumes of the Colombina.

For shapes, the highlight is tight dresses, which are also given a sensual touch with mini lengths, are a hit for the warm season.
