Hope releases a clothing line-up with biodegradable fabric
Aiming at becoming increasingly sustainable, the Hope lingerie brand has just released a product line-up with biodegradable fabrics. The company which is part of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Association of the Textile and Clothing Industry) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency) – has also presented its creations for their fitness line-up named Hope Resort.
For this novelty, the company partnered with Rhodia, which has developed the technology used in the fabrics. The thread developed by the company is made from biodegradable polyamide, called Amni Soul Eco, and allows for a faster biodegradation process when the clothing is disposed of in sanitary landfills. All products with the new fabric boast the same durability as other brand’s clothing pieces, with the advantage of decomposing in up to three years when compared to the 50 years of common microfiber.
Hope’s decision came from the desire of being more sustainable. The brand has analyzed data from the national textile industry and realized that the underwear fashion sector accounts for the disposal of 170 tons of waste annually.
The new products that include the lingerie Touch line-up and the Bamboo fitness fashion are all biodegradable, except for haberdashery. The brand estimates that by 2021 all pieces of the Touch collection will be made with sustainable fabric.
With over 50 years of history, Hope is one of the main lingerie brands in Brazil. Currently, the company encompasses three brands and is present in 18 countries with over 4 thousand sales points. In addition to the recently released fabric, the brand has other initiatives aimed at looking after the environment, such as the partnership with the “I recycle” seal that performs reverse logistics.
Hope also takes part in the “Sewing Dreams” project developed in partnership with the Government. The activity intends to train men and women for working in the textile industry and is supported by Hope in its Maranguape factory in the state of Ceará.
