Hyosung increases the supply of elastane for manufacturing face masks

06/01/2020

The elastane, nylon and polyester manufacturer, Hyosung, has shifted its production for meeting the increasing demand for face masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company which takes part in Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Association of the Textile and Clothing Industry) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency) – has adapted its facilities to increase elastane production.

With one factory in Brazil and nine others around the world, Hyosung saw the demand for weaving items decrease, and opted to increase the production of elastane, given the current state.

“Hyosung has converted the production of elastane threads to increase the supply to the global market by 20-fold”, explains Mike Simko, global marketing director at Hyosung – Textile Division.

The item is used in the manufacturing of facial mask cords that secure the fabric over the ears. “This production can be used for the elastic that comprises the cords of several billion face masks per month, which would be an important aid for the production needs of our clients. We were lucky to keep our elastane production operational in all international plants to supply local and global communities”, the executive goes on.

In addition to the operation towards face masks, Hyosung has donated over USD 420,000, besides medical supplies for medical workers that care for COVID-19 patients in Daegu, South Korea.
