Hyosung’s creora® bio-mass elastane receives first Global SGS certification

Hyosung, a Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) company — the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), the world’s largest elastane manufacturer and the first global developer to market bio-based elastane, has received Eco-Product Certification from Standard Global Services (SGS), ensuring that creora® bio-based elastane is made with raw materials from renewable sources, coming from a harmless and ecological environment. SGS, a leading inspection and verification company, is globally recognized for providing an international standard of quality and reliability.

Hyosung’s creora® bio-mass elastane is made by replacing 30% of petroleum-based resources with bio-based raw materials derived from industrial field corn, which is also called dent corn. According to a recent life cycle assessment (LCA) by a third-party company, manufacturing creora® biomass reduces your carbon footprint by 23% compared to producing regular elastane.

In addition, the raw material used to manufacture creora® biomass is grown sustainably and responsibly by farmers who aim and put their efforts into protecting the land, air and water.

“Brands are looking to develop deeper, trusted connections with consumers who are concerned about the way the products they love impact the environment,” said Mike Simko, director of global marketing at Hyosung Textiles. “As a supplier of sustainable textile solutions, it was very important for us to certify and document creora® bio-mass, so that our partners can pass this verification and maintain their consumer’s loyalty”.

While ideally used with other bio-derived natural fibers and bio-derived synthetics, creora® bio-mass elastane is suitable for all textile applications from sportswear, casual wear, swimwear and more. It provides the same quality and ultra-stretch recovery as Hyosung’s creora® Powerfit.

According to Simko, Hyosung is planning to introduce creora® bio-mass made with 100% bio-derived content in the future.
