Incofios plans to increase cotton yarn exports up to 10%

03/07/2023

Year 2023 began with bold targets for the Brazilian cotton farming segment. The country will attempt to reach the top world position as a cotton exporter, encouraged by the growth of the planted area and possible reduction of plantation areas by the competitor countries. For this year, Abrapa (Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers) plans to reach 1.7 million hectares of planted areas, surpassing the figures of the record crop in 2019.

On the heels to increase the share of the Brazilian fiber in the international market, Incofios, member of Rovitex Group headquartered in the state of Santa Catarina, is a reference company in the production of 100% cotton yarns and plans to increase its product exportation figures. The company is part of Texbrasil (Internationalization Program of the Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry), which is a result from the partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency).

Fernando Conti, Sales Manager at Incofios, says that 2023 already began making new business agreements in the neighboring countries, Colombia and Peru, as a result from the attendance in Colombiatex, and near countries. “During Colombiatex, the major tradeshow in Latin America aimed to the textile industry, Incofios achieved mean income of USD 500 thousand. Being present in the international market is an item of the strategic plan of the company.”

Brazilian statistics

Brazil is the second top exporter, after US, and estimates to increase shipments above 22%. In 2022, Brazilian cotton exports set new record in revenues, totaling USD 3.67 billion, 9% above the figure of USD 3.4 billion in 2021.

The fiber production chain has been demonstrating outstanding performance year after year and one of the good news is the possible debut in the Egypt’s market. This is the first market opening registered by Brazil in 2023 and represents the acknowledgement of the quality of the Brazilian product.

The “Egyptian cotton” term is a synonym of cotton suitable for luxury and top quality products, especially due to its length, softness and strength. It is estimated that Brazil has potential to meet, in principle, 20-25% of the Egyptian demands.

Tradeshows and events drive the industry

Textile tradeshows and events are important to acquire knowledge and make businesses. In addition, the relationships generated improve networking, help to expand the strategic vision and boost the generation of new ideas.

“One of the actions in this year onset was attending Colombiatex tradeshow, occurred in the end of January, in Colombia. Our presence provided greater visibility to Incofios, which in addition to hosting business partners that already buy from the company, also enabled the survey of new prospects. Attending the tradeshow is an integral part of the process to make Incofios capable to export 10% of its production capacity,” he points out.

Incofios was one of the 29 Brazilian companies attending the tradeshow and supported by Texbrasil. The tradeshow has a tradition of 35 years and counts on the attendance of visitors, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, and representatives of textile inputs and apparels, in addition to press representatives from the whole world.
