International fashion speakers talk about the future of jeans
Vicunha Textil, a manufacturer of indigos and denims and a member brand of Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), ended its S/S 2017 launch event on Friday, November 6. The programming included talks by international speakers Piero Turk, a reference in washing techniques, and Vasco Pizarro, marketing director of the traditional Portuguese washing company Pizarro. On the first day, participants were able to see an exclusive presentation by Maria Cristina Pavarini, editor of Sportswear International magazine.
Maria Cristina talked about jeanswear in the digital world and how the internet has changed consumer habits in the last fifteen years. “We are experiencing a technological revolution; we are free to give opinions and make choices. In addition to consuming fashion in the online world, we have the power to influence major brands. In other words, we participate directly and indirectly in the creative process,” she said. The journalist presented data showing the growing influence of social media and the popularization of smartphones in purchase decisions. “Fashion business is learning to deal with this digital environment and those that dominate the tools will be ahead of the competition,” she added.
Piero Turk discussed the interpretation of trends in jeans and the evolution of washes over the years. The specialist also reinforced the importance of conscientious consumption and reducing the environmental impact of processing techniques. “Our challenge is to find solutions and technologies to make jeans greener,” he said. Within this context, Vasco Pizarro highlighted the importance of professionalization in the washing segment. “The industry’s future lies with new talent. We believe in the potential of young people to develop transformative concepts and techniques,” he said in closing.
