International journalists attend fashion and culture event in SC

11/22/2013

Presenting the results of work developed throughout the year by the Santa Catarina Moda e Cultura (Santa Catarina Fashion and Culture, or SCMC, its acronym in Portuguese) project – a group of companies in the state seeking to foster development of fashion production and local design, the SCMC Resort Culture Club, the final event of the initiative’s eighth year, will be held on November 30. Work done throughout 2013 by students, teachers and employees at member companies will be shown during the event, which will also feature art, music and cuisine. Covering this edition are two international journalists, invited to the event by Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil): Samantha Aldenton, from the WGSN trend bureau, and Victoria Lescano, a columnist from Argentina’s Página12 newspaper.

After consolidating research on resort culture, this year’s studies have mapped iconic characters from this culture to show what it means to live in a state with this lifestyle. Each team worked to develop a 10 piece collection expressing the essence of their icon’s lifestyle. Among those researched are artists, photographers, entrepreneurs, chefs, musicians and other professionals reinforcing this identity. Jackson Araujo and Luca Predabon have been the project’s Creative Directors since 2010. They say that “these people sustain the importance of resort culture in the state’s positioning as a place for product innovation, industrial processes and lifestyles.” As a result, the event will show 21 installations.

The companies taking part in the 8th edition are Altenburg, Audaces, Brix Jeans, Cia. Hering, Circulo, Dalila Textil, Daniela Tombini, Digra, Dudalina, Fakini, HI Etiquetas, Hoepcke Bordados, Karsten, Kyly, Lancaster, Marisol, Modus.Org, Oceano, Printbag, Tecnoblu and Von der Volke. SCMC Resort Culture Club will be held in Florianopolis, at Stage Music Park, at 7pm. Entry to the event is free. Invites can be picked up at strategic points or printed off of the event’s official website starting on November 15.
