Investing in the slow living concept, Redes Santa Luzia takes the international market

12/03/2018

The slow living trend, which came from an effort to slow down day-to-day and espousing activities aimed at well-being in its practitioners’ everyday lives, is now also influencing interior design. That is according to Paraiba-based Santa Luiza Redes e Decoração, a member of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – held through a partnership between Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) – which has been conquering international markets with products aligned with this ideal.

“We’ve noticed that the slow living trend in décor has caused people – who used to be hyper-stimulated by consumption – to now go back and look at the elegance of simple and artisanal things,” says Armando Dantas, CEO of Santa Luzia Redes e Decoracao.

He also says that this interest in sustainability has attracted interest from international buyers, especially from countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland, the USA and Finland.

The company’s internationalization strategy consists of investing in participation in international trade shows, such as Spoga+gafa (geared toward the outdoor décor market), in Cologne, Germany, and the Natural Products Expo West, in the ecological market, held in Anaheim, in the USA, and the company has been reaping the fruits.

Today, the brand’s most popular fabric is Tambaba, with its complex weave and made using recycled yarn and organic colored cotton. According to Dantas, demand for this product shows conscientiousness in design along with sustainable raw material.

All of the fabrics from the brand’s chains are made using artisanal and mechanical looms – the most recent was created in 1784. The same production methods from the 18th century are still used. For Dantas, these characteristics, filled with history, tradition and memories, add value to the company’s product and go beyond trends.
