London hosts young talent in Brazilian fashion

07/03/2013

On Wednesday morning (July 3), the Brazilian embassy in London played host to a meeting between the Helen Rödel, Der Metropol, Gralias, Cynthia Hayashi, Trendt, Karin Feller, Gabriela Sakate and Spirodiro labels with opinion makers, journalists and buyers. The event is part of the international initiatives of the Ponto Zero Showcase, an incubator to train and develop new talent in fashion. The project is developed by Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Export Program, a Program developed by Abit in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, Apex-Brasil), along with Mercado Mundo Mix and Casa de Criadores.

The Brazilian-style breakfast was attended by major representatives from the fashion world, such as designer Barbara Casasola; Ilaria Pasquinelli, from The Guardian; Sara Barr, of Harrods; Alastair Guy, of Style.com; and others.

The designers also had the chance to receive advice from specialists on the English market, such as Ana Santi, Deputy Editor at Drapers; Damian Foxe, Style Editor for the Financial Times How to Spend It magazine; Joshua Brinksman, a buyer for LN-CC; Lucas Nascimento, a Brazilian designer; Maya Bentler, Managing Director of Avenue 32; and Roxy Ribeiro, London correspondent for Vogue Brazil. “It is very interesting to see all of these designers coming as a group to the English market, since it shows the strength of production and creativity in Brazil,” said Ana Santi. “Without question, we have a lot of interesting products here today,” added Nascimento.

Tomorrow the participants will show their summer 2014 collections at a showing at The Laundry, a space owned by Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien that is a mix of studio and art gallery.  Next, they will go to Paris to show at Who’s Next Pret-à-Portêr, one of Europe’s most important trade shows. Both initiatives are aimed at creating long-term relationships between the project brands and some of the top international buyers.
