Maria Pavan is one of the winners of the Exportação RS Award
Rio Grande do Sul-based brand Maria Pavan was one of the winners of the Exportação RS 2018 Award, an award given to exporters in the state. The company, a member of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – won the 46th edition of the award in the Small International Trailblazer category.
Leaders from 18 institutions supporting exports in Rio Grande do Sul serve on the Exportacao RS Award Committee, including Apex-Brasil. A total of 56 companies from the state were awarded in two categories: qualitative and quantitative. The first is based on export data from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (or MDIC, its acronym in Portuguese), while the second, in which Maria Pavan was awarded, is determined using nominations from institutions that support the Awards committee.
Winning the award was a huge surprise, according to Leticia Pavan, one of the owner’s of the apparel label. “It was a milestone for Maria Pavan. We have only been working towards internationalization for three years, and it has been a very rich experience filled with achievements. Winning the Exportacao RS award along with large export companies is very significant,” she says.
The brand outlined a strategy for internationalization geared towards the European market and has been reaping the rewards. The label has participated in trade shows like Who’s Next and Tranoi, in Paris, and is currently at a showroom in England.
“I’m sure that the actions we’ve done abroad have contributed to this recognition,” says Leticia. And she also talked about the brand’s next steps, adding that “we recently took part in Coterie and there was a lot of love for our products. Our strategy now is to invest even more in the North American market.”
