Maria Pavan now sold at London boutique
British newspaper the Financial Times reported earlier this month on Brazilian knitwear label Maria Pavan, a member of Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency). The reason: the brand went on sale at the up-scale Pamela Shiffer boutique in London. This good news is the result of the significant work the brand has done to internationalize along with the support of the Program, which it entered in late 2014.
A meeting was held with Pamela in April of last year, with the international buyer attended the Minas Trend business and fashion shows in Belo Horizonte at the invitation of Texbrasil. It was during this first contact that Shiffer, a businesswoman who personally selects the boutique’s products, learned about the Brazilian brand, which took another step into the international market: “London is one of Maria Pavan’s target markets. With the help of Texbrasil, we studied the market and its particularities, which then enabled us to adapt our products, especially the shapes, to the European market,” says Mariana, a partner at the label.
The Porto Alegre-based brand then developed a capsule collection especially for export to the U.K. entitled “Indigenous Women of Brazil.” It was an instant success: the items quickly sold out at the two points of sale in London. Now, Maria Pavan wants to continue with its international plans, implementing actions in the U.S.A., where it already has two customers. “We feel the North American market is very receptive to our products, which have great quality and design and are competitively priced. We are planning actions in New York next year,” adds Mariana.
