The international ITMA Future Materials Awards award is a World Textile Information Network initiative that recognizes success in textile innovations and celebrates the essential work done by companies that support the industry. Among the finalists for the 2015 edition, moovexx was highlighted in the ‘Best Innovation – Textile Solutions for Clothing’ category. This innovation consists of original waistband construction using invisible elastic that brings flexibility to the waist, accompanying the body’s movement and adaptable to any kind of product, from jeans to tailored trousers or accessories. It also includes a network of solutions that guarantee quality and a positive cost-benefit relationship for the brand, the apparel company and everyone else involved in the chain. The moovexx waistband technology was created by the Kanzo brand and is currently managed by the moovexx Group, a member of Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

As the winner of awards that include IDEA/Brasil in 2013, a participant in Be Brasil in New York in 2014 and a recipient of funding from the Brazilian Development Bank earlier this year, the moovexx Group already has an extensive trajectory focused on innovation. According to CEO Renata Iwamizu, the recognition and visibility gained when an award is won reinforce the company’s seriousness and credibility. “Being finalists in the ITMA Future Materials Awards 2015 was a surprise. This is an award in which the most modern laboratories and most established companies in our industry take part. Being in such a select group is really very special,” she says.

Since joining Texbrasil, the moovexx Group has had a very productive relationship with the program and has been part of key initiatives, such as missions to China, Japan and Portland (U.S.A.), an agreement with USP and participation in the Innovation Program. “We have committed to taking full advantage and paying back the benefits received with results. When we see international centers of reference, our vision is expanded and the way we see our own business changes completely. One of the brands we visited in Portland, for instance, was the one that told us about the award and encouraged us to participate,” Renata adds.

Renata says that over 300,000 people have already tried out and approved of moovexx waistband technology and that the moovexx Group’s partnership with major fashion groups, such as Malwee, Restoque and Santista, is a point of pride for the company. Recognition of the potential of its creations has led the group to patent its products in Brazil and abroad, a crucial initiative to gain the respect of major companies and serious people in the industry. “It’s fundamental to understand that an idea will only become an innovation if you can take it to the market. So the hardest work is creating viability for everything that you believe in,” she says.

The positive feedback from moovexx technology end consumers has driven the group to work on a scalability model for innovations and to design new potential markets that could benefit from them. With this in mind, the company is setting up a structure to internationalize its technologies and platform of benefits to overcome the challenges of the textile chain.

The result of the ITMA Future Materials Awards will be announced on November 16 in Milan, Italy. Renata is confident. “Innovation has transformed our company. We use the tripod of sustainability for support to guarantee our progress nationally and internationally. Regardless of the end result, the networking opportunities and possible business are real and we want to embrace them,” she says in closing.
