Over 20 years with Texbrasil, Cedro Têxtil becomes a reference in the Latin American market
Cedro Têxtil has a long and prosperous history in Brazil, which has lasted for more than 140 years. Founded in 1872, it was one of the first textile factories in the country, pioneering the modern production of textiles.
As well as its history, the partnership of the company with Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investments Promotion Agency) is also long and successful.
Cedro bet on the Program as soon as it was created, in 2000, and was one of its first participants. With Texbrasil, it has already received support for countless missions and events, the main one being Colombiatex, which the company has been attending since 2002. “Texbrasil’s support has always been very important, but at the beginning of any project it is always indispensable because we are arriving in an unknown environment,” explains Alessandra Leonel, export manager for the brand.
Participating in the Colombian trade show, the largest textile event in Latin America, was essential for Cedro to follow its export path. Alessandra explains that Colombia, in addition to having a growing apparel industry, produces for major brands in the United States, being an important hub for companies seeking international growth. “With the support of Texbrasil since the beginning of this project, Brazilian industries have become major suppliers to Latin America,” comments Alessandra.
Today, Cedro has a production capacity of 168 million square meters of fabric per year, about 5% of which is exported. The main focus of the brand outside the country is precisely in Latin America. “Today we export to some Central American countries and all of South America, in addition to Spain,” explains Alessandra.
Focus on sustainability
One of Cedro’s main commitments in its production is to preserve the environment. In the past 10 years, the company has reduced CO2 emission by 70% to the environment, using a thermal energy matrix that uses biofuels. Reuse and recovery of water used in the industrial process is also a highlight, with 98% of reuse of cooling water and 20% of treated effluent water.
Additionally, 100% of the cotton used is ABR (Brazilian Responsible Cotton) certified, which promotes good social, environmental, and economic practices in the cultivation of fiber. Sustainability is also in Cedro’s product development. The highlight is the Nasus fabric, made from polyester yarns produced from recycled plastic bottles. The result is a fabric with less impact on the environment.
