Paraíba Cotton Project brings together nine companies in sustainable fashion show
With an eye on market demand, the Paraíba Cotton Project, which brings together textile and clothing industries, is presenting a fashion show at the 7th edition of Brasil Eco Fashion Week (BEFW), during sustainable fashion week. The event will be held from December 7 to 9, in São Paulo.
Companies taking part in Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) — a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) – will be present.
The models will show off the garments of the textile companies: Companhia Industrial Cataguases, Dalila Têxtil, Ecosimple, Santa Luzia Redes e Decoração and Texpar (from the Unitêxtil group). The clothing and accessories companies will be represented by D’Cotton, Dona Chica, Makano and Natural Cotton Color.
Ethical and sustainable fashion
The brands taking part in the show stand out for their position in the ethical and sustainable fashion industry. Some, such as Natural Cotton Color, show cotton in natural tones, with shades of beige and brown in the cotton that is born colored.
There will also be pieces made with yarns from the recycling of shredded fabrics, such as Dalila Têxtil and Santa Luzia. The waste is carefully separated by color. Without the need for dyeing, they are reconstituted to create unique and sustainable garments, which reflects the principles of circular fashion.
Francisca Vieira, CEO of the Natural Cotton Color brand and mentor of the Paraíba Cotton Project, highlights the importance of the textile industry’s collaboration, since the production of clothes demands quality knitwear and woven fabrics. “These partnerships have been essential not only in supplying inputs, but also in contributing to the local infrastructure, with processing machines that are promoting a real revolution in the fields of Paraíba,” she says.
Paraíba Cotton Project
Developed by Natural Cotton Color to meet the growing demand for textile inputs for sustainable fashion, the project is based on planting colored cotton with a guaranteed purchase contract. The aim is to strengthen the Local Production Arrangement (APL) by including small landowners who are always organized in family farming associations, including traditional quilombola communities. The initiative includes eight municipalities in the semi-arid region of the state. With more than 600 hectares of planted area, the project involves around 300 farming families from rural settlements and quilombola communities organized into cooperatives.
Brasil Eco Fashion Week
The show is part of the Brasil Eco platform, which promotes good market practices and brands in the fashion industry, with a focus on sustainability attributes. The event is held annually and brings together education, fashion shows, networking and entrepreneurship in an environment that is free and open to the public. The sustainable fashion week brings together around 120 employees, plus dozens of companies involved in sponsoring, supporting and organizing the editions.
