Rhodia launches biodegradable yarn for the footwear industry
To celebrate the release of the new Amni Soul Eco® biodegradable yarn, Rhodia is launching a sustainable footwear collection in partnership with the textile companie Innovativ and Insecta, a vegan shoe label. Both companies are members of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) with the support of Abit and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).
Amni Soul Eco® is made of biodegradable polyamide. It is being offered as a solution to make the industry more sustainable, since its use in Insecta’s vegan footwear is a first in the industry. In addition, it also offers more functionality, since it allows the final product to dry faster.
According to Ordiwal Wiezel Junior, President of Innovativ, the weaving mill responsible for developing the fabric used in the collection, another feature of the sustainable yarn is its silky feel and fine titer, making it ideal for combination with other sophisticated fibers.
And in an effort to further lower the environmental impact of making footwear and making the product increasingly greener, the project also relies on the development of a special sole that is lighter and more sustainable.
Laura Madalosso, a partner and Product Director at Insecta, says that the collection is a complete solution, aligned with global mega-trends and the demands of the footwear industry. “We are hoping that the market sees the importance of this awareness,” states Madalosso.
