Texbrasil brands create antiviral looks in partnership with Sou de Algodão
The Brazilian movement Sou de Algodão invited the brands Cedro Textil, Cataguases, Santista and Dalila Têxtil to create an editorial with looks made of cotton fabrics and antiviral protection. The companies are part of Texbrasil (Internationalization Program of the Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).
Cedro was inspired by a classic for its creation. According to the brand’s stylist, Eduardo Paixão, the look makes reference to the Bar Suit, iconic skirt and jacket set created by Christian Dior in 1947. “He has an ‘hourglass’ silhouette, rescuing the femininity of the 19th century. What I did was reinterpret this concept, shortening the skirt and turning it into a peplum that goes over flare pants,” explains Paixão.
The set of peplum blouse and pants offers a modern look, “ideal for today,” comments the designer. The fabric used was the AM-V antiviral, with a finishing that inactivates the coronavirus, with 99.8% efficiency.
The stylist Felipe Fenaia has designed a look in partnership with Cataguases. His goal was to create large, comfortable pieces that dress all bodies. “I joined the protection and layers that give a feeling of safety, in the look with three layers: the smoking shirt, a jacket and the pants. It’s as if all these volumes left the person who wears as safe as possible,” he explains.
For Dalila Têxtil and stylist J. Boggo, the intention was to combine art and conscious fashion. “I used the millenary technique of origami, which forms folds and plays with the supposed future to highlight the artistic and contemporary side of the piece,” Boggo comments.
Finally, Santista highlighted the protection aspect. For this, the stylist Luciana Amarante developed a piece that combines protection and comfort with fashion, creating a piece with personality and style.
Sou de algodão
The Sou de Algodão movement was created by the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa), in order to raise awareness about the consumption and sustainable cultivation of the fiber production chain. The initiative with the brands was a way to broaden the knowledge in relation to antiviral fabrics, allied to the making of cotton.
The Movement also encourages the use of fiber in the fashion industry and promotes conscious consumption, encourages professionalism and values student work. For this reason, the editorial is the result of the course completion work of a group of Multimedia students from the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios de São Paulo.
