The city of São Paulo hosted ABUP Textil from March 21 to 24, a major trade show gathering businesses, manufacturers and distributors in the home textiles and décor segment at the Pro Magno Events Center. At the invitation of Texbrasil – the Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, the result of a partnership between Abit and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – the show welcomed international buyer Rodrigo Galemiri, of Artex Chile, who got an up-close look at launches from the Belchior Cortinas, Bella Janela, Jolitex Ternille, Lalitex, Paranatex Têxtil and Santa Luzia Redes e Decoração brands, all of which are Program member brands.

As a result, the companies did USD 470,000 in business, with sales of USD 1.65 million expected over the next 12 months. For Armando Dantas, CEO of Santa Luzia Redes e Decoracao, the event exceeded expectations: “It was an excellent show; we reached all of our sales goals and surpassed our expectations. We also launched a new collection, based on using waste from our own textile factory, which really caught the attention of new customers and even of some older partners,” he says. According to the CEO, all of Santa Luzia’s products are made using cotton fibers with PET or organic colored cotton, which is already proof of the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

In total, 68 companies showed their products at ABUP Textil, which relied on institutional support from Abit and the next edition of which is already scheduled for late August. In 2016 alone, Brazil’s home fabrics segment exported USD 37.6 billion, generating an accumulated balance of 21.6% more than in 2015. In 12 months, 4.32 tons of these products were sold abroad, 38.46% more than in the 12 months of 2015.
