From August 27 to 31, four Texbrasil member companies were in Colombia for a Roadshow geared towards the technical and nonwoven textiles segment, organized by the team at Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between  Abit  (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

The Fibertex, Suominem, Ober and Scavone  companies took part in a trade mission to the following cities: Cali, Medellin and Bogotá. Colombia is an important Latin American market, which imported over USD 10 million in products from this segment in 2017.

“Just 10% of all of Colombia’s imports from last year came from Brazil. That is why this Roadshow is so important. It has the potential to open up a huge universe of opportunities in this market for our companies,” explains Lilian Kaddissi, Executive Manage at the Program.

She also explains that there is another factor favoring Brazilian companies interested in doing business with the country: Economic Complementation Agreement 72 (or ACE 72, as it is known) is already in effect. “The ACE eliminates tariffs on Colombian imports of all textile chain products. So our technical and non-woven fabric companies that are taking part in the mission have extremely competitive prices,” says Lilian in closing.
