Texbrasil’s latest member, the Lucas Magalhães brand, shows a new collection geared toward the European market
Lucas Magalhães, now embarking on a solo career after four years with the Nhoda Group – the details of which he discusses in this interview – has just started an internationalization project. The Minas Gerais-based designer and owner of the eponymous brand, which has recently joined Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – has his bags packed for Paris: Lucas will show his latest collection, tailored to the European public, at the Tranoi show, being held September 26 to October 2.
He says that the idea to internationalize is the result of demand from foreign buyers. “They really encouraged me, but early on I was reticent. Especially because I had to adapt my collection to the foreign market. Here in Brazil, my product has a differential, which is textures like jersey and knits. But this is more common abroad,” he explains.
That is why Lucas made a collection from scratch to show to the European audience at Tranoi and to sell at the Senatto 13 showroom in Milan, Italy – whose portfolio includes two other Program brands: Joulik and Fabiana Milazzo.
His new collection features resort and beachwear made using natural fibers, such as viscose and cotton. “I wanted to use knits, but for summer you need a freshness that is hard to achieve with this texture. So this was a challenge and I had to find a lot of courage. The end result was very authentic items, where the knits are almost silk-like in how light they are,” he says.
The Lucas Magalhaes label is taking part in Tranoi with the Program’s support. Other Texbrasil brands are also showing their collections at the show: Vitor Zerbinato, Amir Slama, Brennheisen, Fabiana Milazzo, Skazi, GIG Couture, Amir Slama, Joulik, IT BAG, Sinesia Karol, Helena Caio and Patricia Vieira.
Items include bikinis, kaftans and swimsuits.
