The textile and clothing sector is the main destination for the Brazilian production of Yarns, Fibers and Fabrics

The production of yarns and processed textile fibers in Brazil generated BRL 16.3 billion in 2019, according to the IBGE. Most of these products are destined for the manufacture of textile products (53.7%) and for the manufacture of clothing artifacts (42.4%). Other production target areas are agriculture, pharmaceutical manufacturing and furniture manufacturing.

Providing strategic sector data is one of the services offered by Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) — the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency). 

According to the most recent sectoral data from Abit, the average Brazilian production in 2021 of clothing was 8.1 billion pieces of clothing and the average production of fabrics was 1.2 million tons. The production of fabrics totaled BRL 39.5 billion in 2021, being strongly demanded by the clothing and clothing artifacts segment (58.2%), followed by manufacture of textile products (14.1%) and manufacture of footwear and leather goods (11%). Brazil has around 22,500 formal companies in the textile and clothing sector and represents 19.5% of jobs and 6% of revenues in the country’s manufacturing industry.
