Vicunha reduces the use of water in textile production by 95%
The textile brand Vicunha announced that this year, it achieved a 95% water reduction in the production chain of various articles (Less Water processes). The brand of Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) — the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) participates in the UN Global Pact since 2020, and committed to two Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 6 (Drinking Water and Sanitation) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
In addition to reducing water use, the brand also reuses four million liters of water per month in the caustic soda recovery process aimed at the preparation of indigos and twills.
The company has also focused on developing more sustainable products and on the reduction of chemicals. Among them are hemp-based fabrics and the first denim in Brazil with 100% recycled raw material, among others.
