International journalists see Brazilian fashion during SPFW

05/04/2016

Three international journalists got an up-close look at the latest fashion trends in Brazil during the 41st Sao Paulo Fashion Week, the country’s largest fashion week, held April 25 to 29, at the Fundacao Bienal Pavilion in Ibirapuera Park. Paula Mateus, from Vogue Portugal magazine; Akiko, from the Senken newspaper of Japan; and Joao Paulo Nunes, of the Huffington Post in England were invited to the event by Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), to learn a bit more about the Brazilian brands and creations.

The opinion-makers also attended five fashion shows by Texbrasil member brands during fashion week: the world of illusions by Apartamento 03, Asian exoticism by Adriana Degreas, embroidered and floral joy by PatBo, the mysticism of the cangaço bandits of northeastern Brazil by Helo Rocha, and knits in contrasting colors by GIG Couture.

“Texbrasil is an extremely beneficial initiative which, by promoting fashion and the textile industry in Brazil to international journalists and buyers, is opening up Brazil to the world in a unique way. The talks, debates, visits to production centers and presence at trade shows and fashion weeks is, without question, showing a modern and competitive nation, with creative and industrial credentials on a global scale,” says Joao Paulo, a journalist with the Huffington Post in England.

The program included visits to the GIG Couture store and to the Cartel 011 and Choix boutiques, where journalists were able to see the work of some of the Program’s member brands. The agenda also included a visit to the Canatiba factory, one of the largest textile companies in the jeanswear segment in Brazil as well as a Texbrasil member.

This theme for this edition of SPFW was “Hands Worth Gold” – celebrating the human ability to work hands-on and reinvent – with an announcement that the Fashion calendar would be set up this year so that the dates of the fashion shows are be near the retail launch dates for collections starting in 2017, consolidating its place as a platform that is attuned to the new needs and dynamics of the fashion market.
