International journalists learn about Brazilian brands during Carnaval
A group of seven fashion journalists from some of the industry’s top media channels in the world were in Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval for an immersion in the world of Brazilian fashion. They were invited by Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) as part of the Carnaval Project, created and executed by Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) in order to capitalize on the high profile of Brazil’s Carnaval to attract foreign buyers, opinion makers and investors to Brazil.
The guest journalists had a special agenda aimed at showcasing the Brazilian creativity and diversity, introducing them to labels such as Andrea Marques, Victor Dzenk, Blue Man and Alessa. They also attended the special group parade and saw the behind the scenes action at Rio de Janeiro’s Carnaval parades.
At a visit to Cidade do Samba, Julien Neuville, a reporter for Le Monde newspaper, was impressed with the structure.”Everything is much more grandiose and organized than you would imagine, with impressive creative work,” he said. While Susan Sabet, Publisher and Editor of Pashion Magazine, one of the Middle East’s top fashion magazines, was fascinated by the wealth of details in the parade floats and, especially, in the costumes:”it’s breathtaking.”Among the designers she met, she highlighted the work done by the Alessa brand, a top seller in the Arab world.”Caftans with unique colors and prints are a big hit in our market,” she stated.
While Lee Carter of Hint Mag, one of the world’s most important news portals when it comes to discussing the latest fashion innovations, loved the designers he met.”Andrea Marques stood out for the originality of her prints and the crafting of her garments.I even asked her if she has any plans to do a men’s line, because I would wear it for sure,” he said.
FashionTV host Hofit Golan will do a program focused on Brazilian labels. She especially admires evening wear from Minas Gerais and, in her travels through Brazil, she wore looks by brands such as Vivaz, Mabel Magalhães and designer Patricia Bonaldi’s PatBo.”I plan to wear evening gowns by these labels at my upcoming red carpet appearances around the world, to help to publicize them,” she commented.
