On May 10 and 11, Instituto Europeo di Design in Sao Paulo welcomed Brazilian executives from the textile and apparel industry for the Innovation and Design Workshop, the result of a partnership between the Institute, which is an international reference in fashion, design and visual arts education, and Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

The course included international teachers, like Alessandro Manetti and Horge Pérez, from IED Barcelona, and the IED coordinator in Sao Paulo, Fabiano Pereira, offering an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach, presenting design and innovation methodologies and tools applied to business development. The participants were immersed in the main challenges faced in internationalization projects, analyzing the design management methodologies to be adopted to understand the companies’ position in relation to the market, to the context of operations and to their customers.

“In this workshop, we looked for inspirations to think differently, acquire new habits, introduce new routines and learn new methods. We sensed an urgent need to change our direction. With the workshop, we were able to find a start, at least in relation to learning and our expectations. Now we have to implement this, which is what we will do,” says Renato Benvenuti, vice president of RVB Malhas. He also thinks that the course will be very valuable for the brand’s plans for internationalization, since it showed the potential of new markets and business opportunities.

Leandra Souza, of Ammo Varejo, a company that is a reference in the home fabrics segment, was surprised by the variety of points and information provided in the workshop: “It was two packed days of useful and applicable content. Now we’re going to turn our eyes to our internal processes and understand how we can execute them more objectively and integrated with our business values,” she says.

In total, there were representatives from 11 companies taking part in the workshop, which is part of the Innovation and Design Mission to Barcelona, the second stage of which will take place in the Spanish city that is considered the European capital of innovation. The second module will be held from May 23 and ends May 27, and will include a program of talks, workshops and visits to companies, technology centers, design firms and museums.
