01/20/2020

From January 21st to 23rd, the city of Medellin, Colombia, will host one of the most important trade shows for fabrics and supplies for the apparel industry in Latin America: Colombiatex. Brazil arrives in the Colombian city with 44 companies, which promise to bring innovations in textile inputs, machinery and equipment, leather, footwear and supplies.

The Brazilian manufacturers form one of the most representative foreign delegations of the fair. The group of companies participates in Colombiatex through the support of international promotion programs: By Brazil Components, Machinery and Chemicals, Brazil Machinery Solutions and Texbrasil, held through partnerships between the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Manufactured Goods (ASSINTECAL), Brazilian Machinery Builders´ Association (ABIMAQ) and The Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit).

In 2019, during Brazil’s last participation in Colombiatex, the 30 companies participating in the Texbrasil Program earned more than US$ 6.7 million during the three days of the event and more than US$ 58 million in business deals the following year. The nine participating manufacturers of Brazil Machinery Solutions, from the machinery and equipment sector, negotiated more than US$ 2 million, between immediate agreements and throughout the year.

Colombia is currently Brazil’s third most important trading partner in Latin America, with an important growth process. More than 90% of Brazilian exports to the country are from manufactures, especially products for cars, iron, steel, automotive parts.

2020 – The Brazilian presence

The Brazil Machinery Solutions program brings to Colombia eight manufacturers of machinery and equipment for the textile and clothing sector. “This fair is very important for Brazilian companies. We have been working hard on innovation for several years, especially in technologies that allow us to create products, supplies, machinery and equipment that increasingly point to a sustainable concept. It is what today’s consumers are looking for, but above all what the planet needs,” says the ABIMAQ’s executive director for the external market and manager of BMS, Patrícia Gomes.

To meet the demand of Colombian buyers and those visiting Colombiatex from all over the world, the Texbrasil Program takes 32 textile input companies. “Colombiatex is the perfect showcase for Brazilian companies to present technological advances in fabrics and clothing supplies. Since the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and Brazil, the number of exports has increased by 45 percent, as has the demand for other inputs for clothing. Faced with this growth scenario, this is the largest Brazilian delegation participating in Colombiatex,” adds Texbrasil’s executive manager and Abit representative, Lilian Kaddissi.

The commercial exhibition for the leather, footwear and shoe supplies sector will be composed of 4 companies, which will show the main trends in inputs in order to obtain comfortable footwear, with quality materials, but above all at the forefront in terms of design and technology.

“The leather and footwear industry in Brazil is one of the most important in the world. Currently, we export to over 70 countries. We are an industry that can use more than 3,500 different components in each collection, which makes us very creative and innovative,” says ASSINTECAL’s relationship analyst, Cariani de Souza.
