On May 28, 29 and 30, Texbrasil (Brazilian Textile and Fashion Industry Internationalization Program) – the result of a partnership between Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – promoted visits by two international buyers to Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.

Berenice Mascarenhas de Mello, of Uruguay, was looking for beachwear items at the Maria de Sol Bikinis & Fitness shop, while Astrid Alarcon Uribe, of Colombia, was searching for young and casual items for Karabik. The Texbrasil team accompanied them both during visits to the Guria Beachwear, Maria Pavan, St. Trois and Helen Rodel stores as well as to a visit to RS Moda – Varejo & Industria Conectados (Retail & Industry Connected).

RS Moda is part of the FVB – Feira Brasileira do Varejo (Brazilian Retail Trade Show) event. The goal of the show, this year in its second edition, is to bring together brands from Rio Grande do Sul, show the entire state to merchants and publicize regional fashion. Four Texbrasil companies are also taking part in RS Moda as exhibitors: Mareblu, Bia Brazil, Sizely and Lybethras.

In addition to retail, the show also has discussion panels and talks on the textile and apparel industry and fashion. The program includes a presentation on the industry by Abit CEO Fernando Pimentel.

“It’s very important for Texbrasil to support the region and pay homage to local fashion. We hope to serve as partners in the growth in apparel exports from Rio Grande do Sul, which, by the way, were up by 17% in 2017 compared to the previous year,” says Lilian Kaddissi, the Program’s Executive Director.
