Two of the biggest names in Brazilian fashion will arrive in New York today (June 2) for an exhibit at the FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), one of the most important fashion schools in the world. A top with a midi skirt from the S/S 2016 by PatBo, designer Patricia Bonaldi’s young women’s line, and a jumpsuit from Alexandre Herchovitch’s S/S 2007 collection will be shown alongside looks by brands including Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Christian Dior and Ralph Lauren.

The “Global Fashion Capitals” exhibit is being curated by Ariele Elia and Elizabeth Way. Designers were selected from 20 different cities that are either established on the fashion scene, such as New York and Paris, or emerging in the industry, such as Sao Paulo, Seoul and Shanghai. Pat Bo, a member of Texbrasil, the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), is already known for participating in showrooms such as Vendome and Who’s Next, in Paris, and for being sold at international multi-brand stores like Italy’s Luisa Via Roma, in Dubai and at London’s Harrods.

The two-piece outfit selected by the curators is inspired by the 1960s. They items handmade using 3D construction techniques and also feature appliqués of plastic flowers, hollowed out circles and embroidery. In an interview with the FFW website, Patricia was unabashedly enthusiastic. “This is a very special time. It is the best response I’ve ever had to my work. PatBo is four years old; it just started doing SPFW and having this happen so quickly is a huge incentive,” she says.
