Six buyers from the Falabella department store in Argentina were in Brazil to take part in business talks with around 20 Brazilian companies. The goal of the trip was to learn about Brazilian suppliers of kidswear, underwear, menswear, womenswear and home textiles. The event was organized by Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program), a Program developed by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

Among companies that participated in the talks was Toalhas Atlantica. Baldoino Haas, a sales representative, highlighted the fact that the buyers were very focused on closing deals: “they really came to buy; they’d already selected models that fit their needs and were talking quantities. I think that in the next few weeks we will finalize the sale. We just need to make some price adjustments,” he said. The brand invests in exports and aims to increase the share of international sales in its revenues from 3% to 10%. “Argentina used to be our biggest market. It’s good to return to the country with a customer like Falabella,” he says.

Lupo also sees an opportunity for growth in the Argentine market: “our initial plan is to bring the private label to the department store and later enter the market with our own brand,” says Carolina Pires, CCO. The company has franchises in countries such as Bolivia and Paraguay and now its products will also be showcased at Falabella headquarters in Chile. Another company hoping to close a deal is Detrick. “They liked the product and the quality and I would say that it was a quite positive first contact. I think that we will be able to continue negotiations,” says representative Marco Antonio Ebele. The company has yet to export its products and thinks that having this feedback from international buyers is also an important step in preparing the internationalization process.

With 11 stores in Argentina, located chiefly in the greater Buenos Aires metro region, Falabella is the country’s biggest department store which, in addition to its brick and mortar stores, also has an online store that sells womenswear, menswear, sportswear and accessories. The brand also has locations in other countries in South America, in Colombia, Peru and Chile, the country where it was founded.
