The 25th edition of Fashion Rio starts this Tuesday, April 8, and this season fifteen international journalists will come to Marina da Gloria as guests of Texbrasil (Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program). The group includes correspondents from media outlets like Harper’s Bazaar (Argentina), Now Fashion, Le Figaro and A La vie a La mode (France), Marie Claire, Milano Finanza and Grazia (Italy), Senken (Japan), WGSN (England), WWD (Mexico), O Publico (Portugal), and Glamour (Russia).  The event, headed by Paulo Borges, is surrendering to the natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro and calling its visitors’ attention to the theme of “Rio, tropical resort, world heritage, cultural landscape” to kick off the S/S 2015 season.

Back at Marina da Gloria after an edition at Pier Maua, Fashion Rio now has a 535m² deck jutting out onto Guanabara Bay; this area will function as a common area with a privileged view to Sugarloaf Mountain and will house a photo exhibit on the “Tijuca Forest” series, by Murilo Meirelles.

Opening up the line-up for Fashion Rio, Patricia Viera will show on Tuesday, April 8, at 6:30pm, with Lenny Niemeyer closing the fashion week with a show on Friday, at 8:30pm. This edition of the event will have two external shows. Osklen Praia will show its collection at Villa Philippe, in the traditional Gloria district, on April 8, at 10pm. The architecture of the space, which mixes classic and modern, is inspired by the Belle Epoque and is decorated with furnishing from colonial times. While Ellus 2nd Floor will show its collection on April 11, at 3pm, at Centro Cultural Acao da Cidadania, in a 14,000 m2 space built in 1871; this same space was the forerunner of the first warehouse in Rio’s port region.

“Rio de Janeiro is an inspiring city and the perfect backdrop for creations. At this edition, we are bringing in a theme that extols this concept, inspired by elements from nature and the urban environment. We are reinforcing the city’s natural place as a world heritage. We have invested in a set that extols Rio and makes it so that the public experiences this postcard,” says Paulo Borges, the Creative Director of Fashion Rio and CEO of Luminosidade.

For the first time, Firjan will bring a true showcase of contemporary production from Rio de Janeiro to the event, displaying 30 items from local labels. The “Coletivo Rio” or Rio Collective, as the space is called, was idealized to show the creations as well as to gather executives, buyers, storeowners, stylists and others, contributing to an exchange of information between textile industry professionals. With this initiative, Firjan intends to stimulate new business by deploying the connections that kick off the fashion week.
