From January 27 to 31, Texbrasil – the Brazilian Fashion Industry Internationalization Program, promoted by Abit in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – is holding its second press trip, entitled “Sustainability in the Fashion Industry.” A team of Brazilian and international tourists is visiting the Ye’kuanas indigenous community, located in the state of Roraima, to take an up-close look at the work Minas Gerais label AUA is developing in partnership with the tribe.

The trip includes three stops: Sao Paulo (SP), Boa Vista and Auaris (RR), respectively. The guest journalists are: Lilian Pacce (Lilian Pacce website), Lucy Siegle (The Guardian – United Kingdom), Paula Mateus (Vogue – Portugal), Lysiane Baudu (La Tribune – France), Valeria Costa (Harper’s Bazaar – France) and Irene Alison (Il Sole 24ore – Italy). The guests will have the chance to take part in these workshops at the community, getting in touch with important aspects of our culture and our fashion.

“The overall goal of the press trip is to get international opinion makers to become immersed in the creative world of Brazilian fashion production, in a unique and unforgettable experience,” says the current CEO of Abit (Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association), Rafael Cervone.

The CEO also emphasized that the best part is having a bridge between national industry and national culture. “Through this Image Project initiative, by the Texbrasil Program, we are showing the integration of the Brazilian textile and apparel industry, presenting sources of inspiration based on Brazilian culture, mixed with sustainable concepts and valuing the branding attributes of our industry, such as authenticity, diversity and creativity,” he added.

Cervone also mentioned some high points: “We are highlighting the important of handmade crafts – and how this can help the communities where the companies are located – and we are showing how sustainability is found in various ways in Brazilian fashion: whether from an environmental standpoint, or as an inspiration or from the social responsibility side.”

In addition to learning about the creative work of Minas Gerais label AUA, the journalists will also see major companies in Sao Paulo that do significant work with sustainability, such as Tavex and Canatiba. The aim is to therefore create awareness of all of the links in the Brazilian textile and apparel chain: from big to small labels, from raw material to finished product.
